Author: See Below PETER KEILTY, a highly respected farmer and stock-raiser, residing on section 28, Forest Prairie township, was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on the 20th of September, 1847, and is the son of William and Bridget Keilty, who were natives of Ireland. The family were among the earliest settlers in the township, the father having cut his own road to his homestead on section 34, which he took in 1864. The parents lived here for many years, then went to Kansas, but returned, and are now living in the township. Peter Keilty spent his school days, receiving a good education, in Kentucky and Illinois, his parents having removed to the latter State in 1863. They remained there for several years, one of which was spent in the city of Chicago, and they then went to Berrien county, Mich., where they remained until coming to Meeker county, Minn., in 1866. The most of the life of our subject has been devoted to farming, although there have been some exceptions. For two years he was on the Northern Pacific Railroad as a cook, and he also spent some time in lumbering. He also for some time was in Colorado. Mr. Keilty was married at Forest City on the 7th of January, 1883, to Miss Gertrude Thissen. a native of Minnesota and a daughter of Peter Thissen, a farmer of Forest Prairie township. Their marriage has been blessed with two children, named Josie and Bernard. In political matters Mr. Keilty affiliates with the republican party. The family are members of the Catholic Church. He has a comfortable home and good farm, and devotes his time and attention to stock-raising and to diversified farming.
