Author: See Below OLA NELSON, a thrifty and successful farmer, who resides on section 36, Litchfield township, is a native of Sweden, born October 9, 1848. His father, Nels Swanson, was born in Sweden in 1822, and died in Meeker county in 1875, having settled here in 1872. Ola’s mother, Hannah Swanson, was born in 1819, came to America in 1871, and died in 1884. Ola Nelson came to the United States in 1866, and in 1869 he located on section 36, Litchfield township, Meeker county, Minn., where he has since lived. During that time he has continually followed farming, and has been reasonably successful, notwithstanding the reverses which he has met, including the destruction of his crop two seasons by grasshoppers and hail, and the burning of his residence, with all its contents, March 2, 1873. In 1878 Mr. Nelson was married to Ellen Hawkinson, a daughter of Hogan Peterson. Their marriage has been blessed with four children— Amanda, Mary, Alice and Anna. Mr. Nelson has a valuable farm and devotes his attention to stock raising and general farming.
