Author: See Below J. P. NYGREN. a prominent citizen and a successful farmer, residing on section 9, Greenleaf township, was born in Sweden on the 21th of June, 1822. He was raised on a farm, learning the habits of industry and economy, which are a characteristic of the people of his nationality. In June, 1854, he was married at Kroneburg, Sweden, to Anna F. Petterson. He remained in his native land until 1868, when he came to the United States, and after making short stops at New York City, Rockford, Ill., and Watertown, Minn., he finally arrived in Meeker county in October, 1868, locating at once in Greenleaf township. He has as good a farm as any in the township, has it well stocked and has fine farm buildings. The marriage of Mr. and Mrs. Nygren, has been blessed with the following children— John P., born October 2, 1855; Matilda C., born January 22, 1857; Carl A., born in November, 1858; Christina M., born December 15, 1860, and Charles O., born December 24, 1862; all of whom are still living except John P., who died October 11, 1877, in Greenleaf township; and Carl A., who died in Sweden when only fifteen months old. Matilda C. is now the wife of W. H. Wilkins, and resides in St. Cloud; Christina is now in Litchfield; and the son Charles O., is still at home and carries on the business. Charles has a thorough knowledge of farm work, and has the reputation of being one of the most thorough and successful agriculturists in the township. J. P. Nygren is a republican in politics, and in religious matters he and his wife are members of the Swedish Lutheran Church. Mrs. Nygren is a native of the same country as her husband, having been born in Sweden on the 18th of July, 1828.
