Peterson Oct. 10, 1830 Telemark, Norway - Jan. 14, 1903 Meeker Co. MN. Peter was born in Telemark, Norway, Oct. 10, 1830. This information is from the Genealogy of Julie Bliven a descendant of Laura Aneta. Laura was one of Hans and Annie R.'s youngest daughters. Since Norwegian Passenger Lists are just now starting to be transcribed, it has been impossible to find out when Peter immigrated to the US. The area of Telemark was formerly called "Bratsberg". It is on the coastlineof the Skagerrak Sea which separates Norway from Denmark. Ships did sail from Telemark to America but only a handful of cabin passengers have been transcribed and Peter R. Peterson is not among them. I have checked for all the alternate spellings. Many of the Norwegian families coming to the States in the mid 1800's came to established farms in Wisconsin. I suspect that was the case with Peter, whether he came with his family or alone. The Census in 1870, Peter R. Peterson is married to Britta Maria. Britta is going by her middle name Maria. They are found in the Meeker County, Acton/Greenleaf area of Minnesota. They have four children: 1. Elef (Elof ) age 7 Wisconsin 1863 2. Ralfe (Ralph) age 5 Minnesota 1865 3. Annie R. age 3 Danielson Township, Greenleaf, Meeker Co. MN. Oct 1 1866. The Census was taken in July and Annie would not turn 4 until Oct 1. 4. John age 1 Danielson Township, Green leaf, Meeker Co. MN. 1869 From Julie's Genealogy, we learn that Britta Maria died in May 20, 1880. In the 1880 Census, Peter has a different wife, Mary G. who is 9 years younger. Also it is listed that a wife is Insane. We don't know if that was what happened to Maria or the present one Mary G. I have included the actual Census form but it is hard to read without seeing it online. The 1880 Census no longer lists them as Acton. They have been rezoned to Danielson Township, Meeker Co. MN. I have included additional information on Annie's brother Elof. He goes on to marry Mary S. in 1890 and by 1910 they have eight children. It is good that Annie and Elof did not leave the Danielson/Meeker area. The tracking of their families was relatively easy. In our last Census of 1930, Litchfied, Meeker, Elof and Mary S. (Denmark) are ages 67 and 64 , their children have left the nest . This also appears to be another rezoning and not a move. We no longer find Peter R. Peterson and wife Mary G. by the 1900 Census. From Julie's information, we learn he dies in 1903. ========================================================================= Copyright Marilyn Roberston 2007.
