She was 103 at her death and the oldest resident of the home. Ruth was born Feb. 9, 1898, at her parent's home near Dassel. Her parents were Alex and Klara Johnson, who immigrated here from Sweden. Ruth lived a full active life with good health. She had a positive, happy, disposition with a great sense of humor. She accepted the Lord as her personal Savior in her youth and that sustained her all her life. She attended all eight years of school at the country school, only 1/2 mile away from their farm. She wanted to go on to school to be a nurse, but her help was needed on the farm. In her early 20s, she went to work as a cook for several prominent families in Minneapolis, Minn. She met Carl Anderson, a Swedish immigrant, at First Covenant Church and they were married Sept. 5, 1931. Shortly after their marriage, Carl lost his job as an ornamental iron worker. Due to the Depression, they had to move to Ruth's parent's farm near Dassel. After several years, they were able to buy their own farm south of Dassel. Carl died in Dec. 1955. Ruth continued to live there until the late 1950s. Later she built a new home in Dassel and lived there until she entered the nursing home in 1990. She is survived by her three children, Linnea Brask of Frederic, Rose (Stan) Edin of Staples, Minn., and Wes (Lorrie) Anderson of Brainerd; nine grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; her parents; six siblings and son-in-law, Wade Brask. Funeral services will be held March 9 at 2 p.m. at Dassel Covenant Church with visitation one hour prior to service.
