FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Diane Rollins Submitted: February 2007 ========================================================================= Child of Ferdinand and Albertina Sukow Stern Amelia Stern Milbrad Amelia Augusta Wilhemina Stern was born on July 9, 1878 in Wurow, Kreis Regenwald, Koslin, Pommern, Prussia, the first daughter and child of Ferdinand and Albertina Stern. At the age of seven she immigrated with her parents, two brothers and sister to the United States, arriving in Dexter Township Mower County, Minnesota in April 1885. The 1885 Minnesota State Census shows the family living in the village of Dexter. She spent the rest of her childhood in rural Mower County on the Stern family farm. She attended the parochial school next to the family church. She was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1891. On December 2, 1896, at the age of 18 she married Jay Milbrad. Jay was the son of August and Mary Jane Milbrad and was born on May 31, 1861. August was a German emigrant who came to Wisconsin before moving to Mower County, where he was a successful farmer and early settler. After their marriage Amelia and Jay lived in Windom, Minnesota. They became the parents of three daughters and two sons: Ethel Mary was born May 14, 1898; Helen Alice was born July 14, 1901; Everett Jay was born July 24, 1902; Herbert William was born January 25, 1907 and Bernice Elsie was born September 15, 1910. The four oldest children were born in Minnesota and their youngest daughter was born in Washington. The family later lived in Bell, California. Jay died in California on July 9, 1944. Amelia died 25 years later on May 12, 1969 at the age of 90 years and is buried in California. Mower County Transcript weekly 2 Dec 1896 pg 3-4 Miss Amelia A Stern of Dexter marriage to Jay E.
