FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Diane Rollins Submitted: February 2007 ========================================================================= Child of Ferdinand and Albertina Sukow Stern BERTHA STERN SALGE Bertha Augusta Stern was born on January 4, 1883 in Wurow, Kreis Regenwald, Koslin, Pommern, Prussia the third child and second daughter of Ferdinand and Albertina Stern. She came with her parents and siblings to the United States, emigrating and coming to Mower County, Minnesota in April 1885 at the age of two. She spent her childhood and adolescence in rural Mower County on the family farm. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in 1896. In June 1903 Bertha married William Salge. William was born in Indiana in 1868, and the census lists his occupation as "carpenter". Their home was in Austin, in the same block as her parents home, after Ferdinand and Albertina moved off of the family farm in 1919. Later Bertha's sister Elsie and husband would live there. Bertha and William became the parents of four sons and two daughters. William died on July 1, 1946 and Bertha died on December 5, 1963. They are buried in Oakland cemetery in Austin.
