He was the fourth son and eighth child of Ferdinand and Albertina Stern. He grew to adulthood on the Stern family farm. His occupation was farming. Erwin married Irma Drews in Elkton Minnesota on April 20, 1927 at the age of 33. Erwin and Irma had a large family with the birth of their three sons and four daughters. They lived on the Stern family farm until 1941 when they moved to Adams and Elkton, where they also farmed. Family history has Erwin relocating after Ferdinand's death, when the farm was sold as his estate was settled. Erwin did not have the funds to purchase the farm. They later moved to LeRoy, Minnesota in 1961, where Erwin died in 1963 at the age of 69. Stern Austin Daily Herald 18 June 1981 Mrs. Irma H. Stern 79, died Wednesday at Community Hospital, Spring Valley. She was a resident of Le Roy. Surviving are three sons, Eugene of Le Roy, Wayne of Excelsior, Minn., James of Omaha, Neb., three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Uhlenhopp, Geneva, Iowa, Mrs. Janet Walters, Seattle, Wash., Mrs. Vernie (Bernita) Dahl Jr. Coon Rapids, Minn. 27 grandchildren, seven great grandchildren; six sisters; Mrs. Stella Kratz, Alexandria, Minn.; Mrs. Viola Behrens, Ocheyedan, Iowa; Mrs. Gertrude Stewart, Jacumba, Cal., Mrs. Selma Nessum, Minneapolis; Mrs. Anna Bartley of Florida, Mrs. Stanley (Miriam) Ankeny, Austin; two brothers, Walter Drews, Eugene, Oregon, Alexis Drews, Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held Saturday. Interment will be in the Leroy Lutheran Cemetery. Mrs. Irma H. Stern 79, a resident in the Meadow Manor Nursing Home, Grand Meadow, died June 17, 1981 of the infirmities of old age at Spring Valley. She was a former LeRoy resident and farm homemaker. Funeral services were held on June 20, 1981 at the LeRoy Lutheran Church with interment in the LeRoy Lutheran Cemetery. Irma H. Drews was born July 21, 1901 near Seattle Washington and married Erwin Stern in Elkton, Minnesota on April 20, 1927. The couple farmed in Adams and Elkton areas until moving to LeRoy 22 years ago. Mr. Stern died in 1963. Survivors include three sons, three daughters, 27 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, six sisters, two brothers. A brother, daughter and a grandchild preceeded her in death. LeRoy Index. Edition 26 June 1981. (She was also a teacher and a registered nurse and had been employed in her profession) Obituary: Erwin Julius Arnold Stern Erwin Julius Arnold Stern was born December 17, 1894 in Dexter Township, Mower County Minnesota, the son of Ferdinand and Albertina Stern. He lived and farmed on the same farm near Dexter until 1941, then moved to a farm near Adams. He was engaged in farming until 1959 when he retired and moved into the village of Adams. He resided in Leroy since 1961. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Dexter Township of which he was a member for 47 years. He then became a member of Little Cedar Lutheran Church of Adams and was a member of the Leroy Lutheran Church at the time of his passing. On April 20, 1927 he was united in marriage to Irma Drews at St. Johns Lutheran Church near Elkton. Mr. Stern suffered a cerebral hemorrhage Sunday morning and passed away at his home at 4:40 PM the same day. He leaves to mourn his sudden passing his wife Irma, four daughters, three sons, 22 grandchildren, four sisters and one brother. He was preceeded in death by one grandchild, two brothers and parents. Funeral services were held at the 2:00 PM at the LeRoy Lutheran church with Rev. Robert Guilbord officiating. Casket bearers were Harlan Rolfson, Wilbur Thompson, Dale Rolfson, Clarence Salge, Lester Salge and Donald Tolstead all nephews of Irvin.
