Their names are listed on the death certificates of their three known children. Their family includes Ferdinand Gottlieb Erdman Stern (the patriarch of our branch of the Stern family) born on July 25, 1854, Johann Gottlieb Ferdinand Stern, born on October 12, 1856 and Albertina Stern Muller born on September 17, 1852. All three of their known children emigrated from Regenwald, Pommern, Prussia to Mower County Minnesota in the mid 1880's, and lived in Mower County the rest of their lives. Johann Gottlieb Ferdinand Stern John (Johann) Stern is the youngest known child and second son born to August and Henrietta Dallman Stern. He was born in Wurow, Regenwald, Koslin, Pommern, Prussia on October 12, 1856. At the time of the 1885 Minnesota State Census John had immigrated to the United States and was living in the village of Dexter. He married Bertha Gomer, also a German emigrant from Pommern in Mower County on October 16, 1887. Bertha was ten years younger than John born on September 17, 1866 in Panzerin Pommern. John was a successful farmer in Dexter Township owning 180 acres in section 29 and 31 with a value in 1909 of $2,845. They became parents of four sons and four daughters; Bertha and Berthold were born in August 1888, Johann in 1889, Klarence in 1890, Agatha in 1892, Olga in 1893, Helena in 1895, and Harry in 1897. They were members of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Their children's births, christenings, confirmations and other life events are recorded in the church records. After retiring from farming, John and Bertha moved into a home in Austin. Bertha died on May 1, 1923 at the age of 57. John lived to the age of 94 and died on November 21, 1950. John and Bertha are buried in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Dexter Township, Mower County. Stern, Mrs. John G.F. Sr. Funeral services for Mrs. John G.F. Stern were held from the residence, 617 Lincoln Avenue, last Friday. Services were also held from Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dexter Township.
