She attended school in Oberlin, PA and graduated from Swarta High School in 1939. After her schooling she worked as a dental assistant, waitress in a Russian Teahouse and a department store clerk. When WWII started she entered the Womens Army Corp and took her basic training in Des Moines, IA and was stationed in New York City, NY. Ruth was united in marriage to Willard Amundson on November 18, 1943 at the Little Church Around The Corner in New York, NY. After Willard?s service in WWII, they lived in Pennsylvania for a short time, before retuning to his parents farm in Murray Co., MN where they worked until 1954 when they moved to farm north of Avoca, MN. In 1966 they moved into Fulda, MN and bought the Gambles Store, which they operated until 1980. Willard passed away in February of 1981. Ruth then worked for the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda and in 1985 Ruth attended Pipestone VoTech. Ruth remained living at home until July 2004 when she moved to the Maple View Estates in Fulda. She entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in January 2005 and passed away there on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at the age of 83. Ruth was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fulda where she was an elder and was involved with the Presbyterian Women. She also belonged to the Fulda VFW Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, Fulda Reading Club, Federated Womens Group and the Maple Lawn Pink Ladies. Ruth was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 20 years. She enjoyed cooking, visiting and entertaining with friends, spending time with her grandchildren, reading, playing cards and shoe shopping. Survivors include her three daughters and their husbands, Anita ?Dolly? and Dennis Phelps of Westbrook, MN, DeAnn and Doug Reker of Glenwood, MN and Nadine Amundson of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren; one great- granddaughter and one brother, Robert Bumbaugh and his wife, Nancy of Blowing Rock, NC. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two granddaughters, Leah Reker and Michelle Reker. Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church, Fulda, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 with the Rev. Michael Foster officiating. The organist was Mary Jean Buschena. The pianist is Norma Meyeraan. Special Music by Quartet. The soloist was Linda Lund. The pallbearers were Ron Renneke, Loren Carlson, Bill Lindquist, Dean McNeal, Don Gass and Mark Woitalewicz. Honorary pallbearers were Kevin and Jennifer Reker, Rebecca and Andrew Kuyper, Jason Phelps, Angela Reker and Jeff Moen. Interment at the Prairie Hill Cemetery, Fulda, MN. Full Military honors provided by the Fulda VFW Post 9017 and American Legion Post 318.
