FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: November 2005 ========================================================================= Ethel Anderson was born on June 29, 1911, at Harris, Iowa to Hjalmer and Jennie Johnson Vihlen. As a child Ethel lived on farms in Iowa and Minnesota. After her father's death in 1920, the family lived in several different locations until moving to a farm east of Slayton. Ethel graduated from Slayton High School in 1928. Following high school, Ethel attended Mankato Teachers College. Ethel taught at several country schools in Murray County and Cottonwood County. On February 25, 1939 she and Otto "Minard" Anderson were married at the Methodist Parsonage in Slayton. Following their marriage they farmed in the Slayton area. Ethel returned to teaching in 1953. In 1956, they bought a farm and moved to Goodwin, South Dakota where Ethel continued teaching. In 1975, they retired but remained on the farm. In 1985, they moved to Watertown, South Dakota. Minard passed away on February 13, 1998. Ethel then moved to Southgate Apartments in Slayton. Ethel passed away on October 19, 2005 at her apartment in Slayton at the age of 94. She was a member of the Mason Belles Extension Club. Ethel enjoyed reading, genealogy, cooking, gardening, crafts and spending time with family and friends. Survivors include two sons, Merlyn Anderson, Slayton and Victor Anderson and his wife Linda, Chugwater, WY; one step-grandson, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Minard; and one sister Edith Anderson. Funeral services were held at United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, October 22, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Gwen Bohlke officiating. The organist was LaDean Lang. The soloist was John Vihlen. The pallbearers were Glenn Anderson, Robert Anderson, Howard Anderson, John Vihlen, Minver Hegstad, Richard Anderson and Donald Anderson.
