FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: September 2005 ========================================================================= Elizabeth Louise Balster Betty Balster was born February 3, 1931, on a farm near Lismore, Minnesota to Henry and Elizabeth Piper Burkard. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from St. Killian High School in 1948. On July 9, 1953, she and Bernard Balster were married in St. Killian, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed near Iona, Minnesota and raised their seven children. They retired in 1989 and moved to Slayton. In 2002, Betty became a resident of the Slayton Manor and passed away there on September 9, 2005 at the age of 74. She was a member of the St. Columba Church in Iona. Betty helped to make many quilts for the needy. Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, and sewing. Survivors include: her husband Bernard Balster, Slayton, MN; three daughters, three sons and their spouses: Edwin and Deb Balster, Bertha, CO; Gerald and Tammi Balster, Lake City, FL; Leon and Karen Balster, Webster City, IA; Linda and Richard Raeker, Pierce, MN; Roseanna and Jerry Wabeke, Kevin, MT; and Joan and Wes Altman, Adrian, MN; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two brothers: Bill Burkard, Des Moines, IA, and Tom Burkard, Melrose, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter Shirley. Funeral services wre held at St. Columba Church in Iona, MN on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating. The organist was Sharon Lais. The song leader was Joanne Halbur. The pallbearers were Rich Lanners, Dennis Klein, Lyle Konz, Steve Halbur, Pat Kremer and Paul Ruppert. Interment is at St. Columba Cemetery Iona, MN.
