Barnard of Chandler Dies Following Brief Illness Of Influenza People over a large part of Murray county and especially in and around Chandler were shocked and grieved to learn Friday that Mrs. J.C. Barnard of Chandler had passed away. She had been ill only a few days of pneumonia, the disease making rapid progress from the first of the illness until the end Friday afternoon. The funeral was held in the Reformed church in Chandler, Monday afternoon at one o'clock, and burial took place in the Fulda Cemetery, the Rev. A.M. Nelson having charge of the services. Jessie Shaw McHarg was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John McHarg and was born in Belfast township, Murray county, February 20, 1885. She attended the Fulda high school and the Mankato teachers' college, after which she taught four years in Murray county, one of them bing in Fenton township. She was married to John Curtis Barnard July 17, 1911, and to this union two children were born, Clifton Curtis who is now twenty years old and Lorraine June, who is twelve years old. Mr. and Mrs. Barnard began their married life in Minneapolis and lived there for three years. They moved from there to the old Barnard farm east of Chandler where they still make their home. Besides the sorrowing husband and two children, Mrs. Barnard leaves to mourn her passing, two sisters, Mrs. Ed Guthier of Minneapolis, and Mrs. Ray Viers of Fulda, and one brother, Archie McHarg also of Fulda. Mrs. Barnard had an unusually happy and jovial disposition. She took an active part in community affairs in the village of Chandler, was a member fo the Mothers' Club and other organizations and will be sadly missed by her wide circle of friends." ---------- 2nd of 2 separate obits on Mrs. J.C. "Mrs. Barnard of Chandler Passed Away on Friday - Succumbs After Illness of Only a Few Days - Funeral Services Held Monday Afternoon. Mrs. J. C. Barnard, former Belfast girl, but who has made her home at Chandler for the past score years, passed away at that place on last week Friday evening, December 16, at 5 o'clock, following a short illness of pneumonia. Mrs. Barnard had been ill only since the previous Tuesday, and her sudden death was a severe shock to both her family and many friends. Bessie Shaw McHarg Barnard was born in Belfast township on February 20, 1885, the daughter of John and Annie McHarg. She attended the Fulda high school and Mankato Normal and spent several years teaching in rural schools. She was married on July 17, 1911, to John Curtis Barnard and to this union were born two children, Clifton Curtis and Lorraine June. The family moved to Chandler in 1915 where they have since made their home. Mrs. Barnard is survived by her husband and children and by one brother, Archie McHarg, and two sisters, Mrs. D.R. Viers of Fulda and Mrs. Ed. Guthier of Minneapolis. A host of people of the Fulda community, who remember Mrs. Barnard from girlhood days, and who have continued their friendship with her, join with relatives in mourning the loss of their dear one. Funeral exercises were held from the family church at Chandler on Monday afternoon, and the remains brought to Fulda where they were laid at rest in the Prairie Hill cemetery, with short interment services at the grave."
