All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ************************************************************************ 1910-LEONA BRETZMAN BEHR-2004 Leona Behr was born on January 30, 1910 at Calumet, Iowa to Fred and Minnie Reimers Siemers. The family moved to Jackson County, west of Lakefield, in 1917. Leona attended country school. On February 7, 1932, she and Walter Bretzman were married at St. Peter's parsonage in rural Lakefield, MN. Following their marriage they farmed the nine children. Walter died on October 14, 1950. She continued living on the farm until 1956. On February 14, 1956 she and Andrew Behr were married at Sioux Falls, SD. They made their home in Fulda. Andrew died on April 23, 1975. Leona worked as a cook in the Fulda Elementary School for many years and then became the first Mealsite manager. She was active with Fulda Senior Citizens. Leona continued living in Fulda until 1999 when she moved to Doman-Rose Assisted Living in Lakefield. In December 2003 Leona became a resident of The Colonial Manor in Lakefield and passed away there on June 13, 2004 at the age of 94. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulda and the Ladies Aid. She belonged to the Fulda Senior Citizens, drove for RSVP and belonged to the 1910 Pen Pal Club. Leona enjoyed dancing, music, traveling, cooking, gardening, fishing, playing cards, and corresponding with many friends. Survivors include eight children and their spouses: Florence Richter of Windom, MN, Marvin and Sharon Bretzman of Bingham Lake, MN, Darline and Leslie Gunther of Brewster, MN, Lois and Don Kraft of Windom, MN, Janice and Verlin Christians of Lakefield, MN, Jim and Jane Bretzman Lakefield, MN, John Bretzman of Marshall, MN, and Mary and Mark Voss of Fulda, MN; daughter-in-law, Darlene Hemen of Isle, MN; step-sons: Luther and Ann Behr of Pittsburg, PA, Duane and Maryann Behr of Defiance, MO, one step-daughter, Virginia and Tom Brewster of Albert Lea, MN; 25 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; 10 step-grandchildren and their families; four sisters and their husbands: Rosie Peters of Billings, MT, Doris Clausen of Bloomington, MN, Gloria and Vernon Johnson of Cottonwood, MN, and Bernice and John Tallman of Amboy, MN; and a brother, Fred Siemers of CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, Walter and Andrew, son, Ray Bretzman, granddaughter, Jolene Bretzman, sons-in-law, Leonard Richter and Don Nelson, and three brothers and a sister, Alice Hoefker, Alvin Siemers, Delbert Siemers and Lester Siemers. Funeral Services at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in rural Lakefield, MN on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Bart Mueller and the Rev. Dwayne Schroeder officiating. The organist is Sarah Thompson. Special music is by Rod Richter. The pallbearers and honorary pallbearers are all the grandchildren. Interment is in St. Peter's Cemetery, rural Lakefield, MN. Visitation on Wednesday from 4:00 until 7:00 PM at Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
