Bockenstedt Is Summoned On Friday - Death Follows Poor Health After Stroke in 1943 In the death of Frank A. Bockenstedt, which occurred Friday morning, November 10, a man whose name has been associated with Fulda business circles for more than forty years, passed to his eternal rest. Mr. Bockenstedt has been in failing health for the past two years, having suffered a stroke in February 1943, after which he was seriously ill for some time. That first illness had been followed by several light strokes at intervals and he has been more or less confined to his home for several months. In the past week his condition took a change for the worse and he went into a coma on Tuesday and grew gradually weaker until the end came at 10:50 Friday morning. His wife, two daughters and a son were at his bedside as he peacefully slept away. One daughter, Mrs. Carl Spielman of St. Petersburg, Florida, has been unable to come due to the illness of her husband. Frank Aloysius Bockenstedt, son of Arnold and Mary Bockenstedt, was born on April 15, 1873, at New Vienna, Iowa. He was one of a family of eight children, four boys and four girls; of the three brothers, Edward, John, and Henry, and four sisters, Elizabeth, Catherine, Anne, and Rose, only Mrs. Catherine Moore of St. Paul, and Edward and Anne Bockenstedt of Dyersville, Iowa, survive. He also leaves three grandchildren, Russel and Nadine Gerber, and Walter Bockenstedt, Jr. The deceased spent his childhood and young manhood in the vicinity of New Vienna, and on November 17, 1897, was married to Anna Von Lemden of New Vienna. They were the parents of four children, a son, Walter of Fulda, and three daughters, Mrs. Louis Devener (Loretta) of Fargo, Miss Elsie Bockenstedt of St. Paul, and Mrs. Carl Spielman of St. Petersburg, Florida. After living in New Vienna for about five years, where Mr. Bockenstedt was in the live stock business, they came to Fulda in 1902 where he continued in the same work until 1920 when he purchased a meat market which he operated until his retirement in 1940. He was held in high esteem by many friends and was a kind and loving husband and father. He was a member of the Fulda Modern Woodmen all of the forty years of his life in Fulda. He will be sadly missed. The requiem mass was sung Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock by the Rev. Father Meyer, and burial was made in St. Gabriels cemetery. The pallbearers were Edward Fuchs, Isador Pollack, F.J. Elskamp, Wm. Heer, Peter Odenbrett and Richard Nevin. Among the relative and friends who were here for the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Louis Devener and Russel Gerber of Fargo, Miss Elsie Bockenstedt of St. Paul, Mrs. Anna Kramer, Mrs. John Hennekes and daughters, the Misses Clara and Lorett, and Mrs. Henry Henenkes of Adrian, and Mrs. O.A. Galvin and Misses Rose and Anne, and Daniel of Currie, Miss Mary Sueddeck, Mr. and Mrs. Dominick Kellen, Mrs. Nick Kellen and Mrs. Henry Schultz of Adrian, Edward Notehe and Mrs. Leo Timmerman of Arcadia, Iowa, and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Moore of St. Paul."
