He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He graduated from Brewster High School in 1926. In the early 1930's Ray attended Business College in Sioux City, IA. On June 6, 1940, he and Lillian Ruppert were married at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Currie, MN. Following their marriage, they farmed the Busch family homestead 5 miles north of Brewster where they raised their seven children. They moved to Brewster in November 1988 where they lived until they moved to Maple View Estates in Fulda in 1998. Ray and Lillian became residents of Maple Lawn Nursing Home in 2000 where Lillian died on November 30, 2001. Ray passed away at Maple Lawn on March 18, 2002 at the age of 91. He was a charter member of the Brewster Knights of Columbus and a life long member of Sacred Heart Chruch in Brewster. Survivors include five children and their spouses; Richard (Charlene) Busch of La Quinta, CA and Raymond (Randy) Busch of Orange, CA, Bonnie Glende of Anaheim, CA, Mary Ellen (Mike) Kelly of Littleton, CO, and Sheryl (Michael) Weinandt of Wabasha, MN; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; adopted son, Fr. Joe Thalisery of India and brothers-in- law and sisters-in-law: Margaret Busch, Dorothy Busch, Marcella Ruppert, Wayne and Julie Peltola, Marcella Commisky, Dorothy Ruppert, Tom and Leota Silver, Herb Ruppert, Wayne Carlson, and Orville and Judy Ruppert. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, two sons, Rupert and John, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services were held at Sacred Heart Church in Brewster, MN on Friday, March 22, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Andrew Olsem officiating. The organist was Loralee Schmitz. Special music by the Sacred Heart Choir. Pallbearers were grandsons, Tom Busch, Jeff Glende, Brian Kelly, Ryan Weinandt and sons-in-law Mike Kelly and Michael Weinandt. Honorary pallbearers were Colin Busch, Mike Busch, John Busch and Nathan Weinandt. Interment at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Brewster, MN."
