Coburn, age 92, died July 19, 2005 at his home in Eugene, Oregon of age related causes. Lewis was born on July 31, 1912 in Fulda, Minnesota to Charles Fred Coburn and Laura Stella Coffitt. He married Emily Viola Mattison on May 30, 1935 in Mankato, Minnesota. Lewis graduated from Macalester College in 1934 with a B.A. degree, and then served in the US Army from 1942 to 1946 with the final rank of Captain. He was stationed in New Guinea where he was severely injured, then sent to Luzon, Philippines. He spent nine months in the US Army hospital recuperating from his injury and malaria. Lewis was employed as a farm manager until his retirement in 1959. A life member of the McKenzie River Lodge #195 Scottish Rite, he was a 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was also a member of Eugene Valley Scottish Rite and the Red Cross of Constantine. Lewis was a life long Presbyterian and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Eugene, Oregon. Lewis enjoyed his association with the Scottish Rite Lodge and volunteered thousands of hours to the daily operation and philanthropic activities of the lodge. He is survived by his son, Lee; five grandchildren, Heidi J. Gertjejansen, Minnetonka, Minnesota; Scott F. Gertjejansen, Waverly, Minnesota; Wendy J. Gertjejanssen, Maplewood, Minnesota; Lori Meier, Moscow, Idaho; Rand Coburn, Seattle, Washington; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Emily V. Mattison, his daughter, Randi L. Gertjejansen, and his brother Merl L. Coburn. His last days were spent visiting and jaunting around with his granddaughter, Wendy; great granddaughter, Cora; nephew, David and Davidís wife Carol. He was well known with fondness at his residence, Sheldon Place and will be missed by everyone. No services will be held.
