Denney Passes Away Following Lingering Illness - Long Time Resident of Fulda Called Following a Long Illness with Cancer - 69 Year of Age William W. Denney, resident of Fulda since 1892, passed away peacefully at his home here at 7:20 oclock on Thursday evening, March 17, following an illness of almost two years with cancer. Of strong, rugged physique, Mr. Denney was little given to illness, but a year ago last summer his health began to fail, and it was deemed advisable to go to Rochester, for a complete check-up. Here he underwent an operation from which he made a good recovery, and returned home. His strength, however, never really came back and for the past twenty months he has been confined to his home, where he received the solicitous care of his wife and children, as well as cheery help from his neighbors and friends. Thru his long illness, Mr. Denney never gave up hope but remained cheerful and optimistic until the very last. William Wilbur Denney was born November 9, 1863, at Watertown, Wisconsin, the son of Rufus and Viola Parsons Denney, and one of a family of six girls and five boys. He attended school at Watertown, and grew to manhood there. In 1884 he moved with his parents to Lyon County, Iowa, where they settled on a farm near Alvord. In 1892 he left Iowa and came to Fulda where he engaged in the well-drilling business. It was here that he married Emma Gertrude Peterson on July 2nd, 1897, the couple making Fulda their home during all their happy years together. Two sons were born to this union, Harry, who resides in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Walter of Fulda. Besides his wife and sons, Mr. Denney is survived by three brothers, Oscar, of Long Prairie; Frank and George of Ladysmith, Wisconsin; and three sisters, Mrs. S. R. Boyd of Chicago, Illinois; Mrs. Hans Nelson of Sioux Falls; and Lillian Conklin of Ladysmith, Wisconsin. William W. Denney was a member of Fulda Lodge No. 260, Independent Order of Odd Fellows; Camp No. 487, the Modern Woodmen of America; Imperial Order of Muscovites, and was an honorary member of Minnesota State Firemen's Association. He was always very active and took a vital interest in the activities and well fare of these organizations. Funeral services were held from the home on Saturday afternoon, with Rev. A. P. Walton in charge. The services at the grave were conducted by the Odd Fellows lodge, the members of that organization, as well as the Woodman Camp, attending in body. Mrs. J. H. Walsh sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and a quartet composed of Mrs. Walsh, Mrs. F. W. Helweg, Wm. M. Leebens and C. E. Brandt, sang "Come Unto Me." Interment was made in the Prairie Hill cemetery. Pall bearers were F. G. Johlfs, W. D. Coffitt, J. W. Woolstencroft, J. P. Durnan, J. C.? and William ?"" ? included Mr. and Mrs. Hans Nelson and son, Walter, and daughter, Miss Florence, of Sioux Falls, So. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Denney of Sioux Falls, So.
