John T. Stern officiating. 1931 - Dorothy Ann DeVine - 2004 Dorothy DeVine was born on June 16, 1931, at Ihlen, Minnesota to Arthur and Clara Kraft Hill. She grew up on the family farm near Hadley, Minnesota and attended country school, graduating from Slayton High School in 1949. She graduated from Mankato State College with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught in Balaton for two years then in the Slayton Public School from 1953 until her retirement in 1974. Dorothy and Earl DeVine were married on June 28, 1953, at her parents farm. They made their home in Slayton. Dorothy became a resident of Our House, Hospice Home in Slayton in March 2004. She passed away there on June 11, 2004, at the age of 72. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was a life long member in the Missouri Synod. She served as an officer in the Dorcas Society, sang in the church choir and was a youth counselor. She was currently a board member of the Murray County Christmas Project and belonged to a birthday club with the Trinity Lutheran ladies. She enjoyed collecting angels, doing cross-stitch, china painting, playing cards and games, fishing and traveling. Survivors include her husband Earl, Slayton, MN; and two special children who they helped raise: George Bowman, Marshall and Jane Balch, Maple Grove, MN; two sisters: Yolanda and Milton Schroeder, Northfield, MN and Deloris Ewy, Scottsdale, AZ; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services are at Trinity Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. John T. Stern officiating. The organist is Kathy Schwartz. The pallbearers are Dale Meier, Gary Dierks, Bruce Buzz Anderson, George Bowman, Jim Goedtke and Lloyd Stevens. Honorary pallbearers are her birthday club members: Arlie Muecke, Gerri Jensen, Phyllis Mansch, Joyce Jans, Jan Conrad, Lois Oldewurtel, Mildred Hergert, Lavon Michaelson. Additional honorary pallbearers are: Karen Vermilyea, Norm and Doris Cote, Barb and Jim Surprenant, Mary Dierks, Linda Anderson, and her hospice workers. Interment is in Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
