FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: January 2005 ========================================================================= Gertie Erickson was born on July 4, 1922 at Ravenscroft, Tennessee to James and Frances Randolph Cobb. She grew up and attended school in Glade Creek, TN. On January 15, 1942 she and Robert Erickson were married at Scottsboro, Alabama. Together they lived in Tennessee and Iowa for a short time before moving to Slayton. Gertie worked as an egg candler at the Slayton Produce for many years. She later was the manager of the Slayton Rest Home for 13 years. Bob passed away on March 3, 1978. Gertie then cleaned homes and offices until her retirement in 1996. Gertie entered the Slayton Manor Care Center in 1999 and passed away there on January 20, 2005 at the age of 82. She was an active and faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church of Slayton and belonged to the U.P.W., taught Sunday School for over 30 years, gave numerous Sweetheart Luncheons and organized many Christmas programs. Her favorite pastimes included collecting recipes and cookbooks, gardening and flowers, going to rummage sales and spending time with her family. Survivors include one son, David and his wife, Michelle of rural Slayton; three grandchildren, Rachel Hoard, and her husband Ron of Rapid City, SD, Lucas Erickson and his wife, Jasmine of Minntonka, MN, and Sarah Erickson of rural Slayton, MN. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, two brothers and one sister. Funeral Services were held at First Presbyterian Church Slayton, MN on January 24, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Rollin Haynes officiating. The organist is Cheri Paulsen. The pallbearers are Richard Wajer, Kevin Johansen, Branch Haken, Bruce Haken, James Tims, and Don Cochran Interment at the Slayton Cemetery, Slayton, MN. Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton was charge of arrangements. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 23 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton and one hour prior to the services at the Church on Monday.
