Estum Marvel Estum was born on March 6th, 1928 at Minneota, Minnesota to Henry Clara Johnson Gillund. She grew up on a farm near Minneota and graduated from Marshall High School in 1946. She worked at various jobs in Pipestone and Marshall. On February 27th 1960, she and Junior Estum were married in Marshall, MN. following their marriage they farmed in the Lucan/Wabasso area until moving to a farm north of Slayton and in 1982. Due to failing health Marvel entered the Slayton Manor Care Center on December 6th, 2004 and passed away there on October 7th, 2005 at the age of 77 years. Marvel was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton. She was a housewife, gardner, and a wonderful grandmother. She enjoyed going out, baking, cleaning, gardening, playing cards, canning, and spending time with family and friends. Loved ones include her husband, Junior of Slayton; children and their spouses, Jolene and Gary Selk of Cody, Wyoming, and Wayne and Kori Estum of Slayton, grandchildren; special family of Carol and Steve Klein of Stillwater, MN, and Robert and Roxy Vandendriesv of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and a brother, Edgar Gillund and his wife, Fran of Marshall, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Walter and Harvey, and sisters, Lillian and Clarice. She will be missed dearly but all will know that she is at peace. Funeral Services were held Monday, October 10th, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN with the Rev. Gloria Anderson officiating. The organist was Twyla Hungerford. The pallbearers were Terry Larson, Richard Hansen, George Miller, Larry Leysen, John Johnson and Ronald Robbins.
