Fiedler was born on August 5, 1923 to the late Peter and Catherine (Demuth) Schmitz in Lacrosse Township, Jackson County, Minnesota. She was baptized into the Catholic faith at an early age at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dundee was later confirmed in that same church. Martha received her education in country school, north of Dundee. After finishing her schooling, Martha remained at home until marriage. On November 25, 1941, Martha was united in marriage to John J. Fiedler, Jr. at St, Mary's Catholic Church in Dundee. To this marriage were blessed three children, James, Judy, and Douglas. After marriage, Martha and John farmed in the Dundee and Brewster area for thirty years until moving to Fulda for seventeen years where Martha worked at Campbell's Soup Company in Worthington until retiring in 1982. In 1989, Martha and John moved to Windom where they currently resided. Recently, Martha had been experiencing health problems and became suddenly ill at home on Monday morning, August 16, 2004 and was taken to the Windom Area Hospital where she passed away a short time later at the age of 81 years. Martha was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom. She has remained active through the years as a member of Birthday Club, Extension Group, and card club. Martha also had several enjoyments which included embroidering, search-a-word, playing cards, and most of all her family and farming. Martha's family who mourns her passing includes her husband of sixty-two years, John J. Fiedler, Jr. of Windom; three children, James Fiedler and his wife, Pat of Paris, TX; Judy Thiesen and her husband, Lee of Windom; Douglas Fiedler and his wife, Zona of Blackfoot, ID; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Viola Just and her husband, Otto of Heron Lake; Margaret Krohn of Chaska; and sister-in-law, Loretta Schmitz of St. James. Martha is preceded in death by her parents; one grandson, James; brothers, John Schmitz and his wife, Della; Marvin Schmitz; sisters, Mary Grahams; Agnes Paplow and her husband, Carl; and brother-in-law, Robert Krohn. Services were held at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Windom, MN, on Friday, August 20, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. with Father Andrew Olsem officiating. Casket bearers were: Curtis Fiedler, Gregory Fiedler, Darin Fiedler, Kenneth Thiesen, Brian Thiesen, Stephen Thiesen and Wade Fiedler. Interment at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery Dundee, Minnesota.
