FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: May 2005 ========================================================================= RAYMOND LEO FLETCHER, 89, of Slayton, died Monday, April 11, 2005, at Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. Born April 2, 1916, in Waupaca, Wis., he was the son of Eke and Elinora Cook Fletcher. He married Audrey Knopke in June 1960. He grew up in Fond du Lac and attended Fond du Lac School, graduating in 1934. He peddled newspapers and magazines from sixth to 12th grade. He was a Boy Scout and later was a Scout Master. Following graduation, he worked in a factory until 1942, when he was drafted into the Army. He served with the 14th Armored Division in Europe and received two Bronze Battle Stars. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Wisconsin and attended Oshkosh State College. He received a bachelor's degree in teaching in 1950. He taught in Wisconsin for 10 years. After marriage, they moved to Frost, where he taught for eight years. In the fall of 1960, they moved to Slayton, and he taught sixth grade until his retirement in 1969. After his retirement, he worked at the Royal Supper Club cleaning and mowing grass. He became a resident of Slayton Manor, and then moved to the Minnesota Veterans Home, Luverne. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Slayton. He was also a member of Slayton American Legion and served as past commander. He belonged to the Minnesota Education Association and Slayton Senior Citizens. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Margaret (Steve) Dunn, Kansas City, Mo., and Nora Meyer, Brooten; five grandchildren; and one great- grandchild. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Slayton. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church, Slayton, with the Rev. Gloria Anderson officiating. Burial, with military honors by the Slayton American Legion and VFW, is in Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton.
