Born July 17, 1919, in Avoca, she was the daughter of Balthazar and Anastasia Hentrich-Riley Illg. She married Lawrence Galles on Aug. 22, 1939, in Iona. Her mother died when she was 5 years old, and her father died when she was 11, after which she kept house for her brothers and sometimes lived with various relatives, assisting in caring for their children. She attended schools in Avoca and Fulda and completed ninth grade. After marriage, they lived in Wilmont and Worthington before settling in Adrian in 1944. She was a homemaker and worked side-by-side with her husband in the family hatchery, feed supplies and custom farm work businesses. She worked for a brief time at Sailor Plastics, Adrian. She volunteered at the Senior Dining Center, Adrian. She moved to the Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Pipestone, in May 2004. Surviving are her husband; one son, Keith (Ona) Galles, Shakopee; four daughters, Marie (Bob) McCann, LaQuinta, Calif., Carol (David) Steichen, Cincinnati, Ohio, Carolyn Smiens, Northfield, and Rosemary (Ron) Tabbert, Magnolia; 16 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and two great-great- grandchildren. The service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dingmann Funeral Home, Adrian, with the Rev. Francis Galles officiating. Burial will be in St. Adrian Catholic Cemetery, Adrian. Memorials are preferred to Good Samaritan Village, Pipestone, or Pipestone County Hospital.
