(Babe) Gerhard obituary - Fulda Free Press - "Babe Gerhard was born April 10, 1912 at Pipestone, MN to Otto and Pauline Oftedahl Gerhard.  He graduated from Pipestone High School in 1931.  He worked in the Pipestone area until 1934 when he moved to Fulda and went to work at Osness Supply Co.  He and Rita Ramert were married September 2, 1939 and continued to make their home in Fulda.  In 1943 Babe enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific Theater.  After his discharge in 1945, he returned to Fulda and worked for a Tire Supply company.  In February 1946 he became manager of the Fulda Coop Oil Co.  He continued to work there after semi-retiring in 1966 for many years.  Babe also drove school bus for 3 years.  He has been a member of St. Gabriel's Church since 1939 where he has served as usher.  He was a life long member of the Knights of Columbus, a charter member of Fulda VFW where he served as adjutant, C & C member, Fulda Legion member, was instrumental in starting the Fulda Water and Soil, was active in Boy Scouts, and had been Lion's Club member.  He enjoyed water skiing, fishing, traveling, and built campers.  Babe passed away at the Windom Area Hospital on Saturday, May 23, 1987.  He is survived by his wife, Rita, 4 children, Sheila, Mrs. David Koch of San Mateo, Pauline Meier of Windom, Steve of Grundy, IA, and Bill of Windom, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild, and his sister Viola Tof_____ of Atlanta, GA.  He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at St. Gabriel's Church, Fulda, MN on Tuesday, May 26, 1987 at 10:30 am with Fr. John Traufler officiating.  The organist was Mary Hogan.  The soloist is A W Koopman.  The lector was Gene O'Neil.  Pallbearers were Mark Hager, Todd Kramer, Bob Kuehl, Dan Lubben, Ken Anderson, and Larry Haupert.  Honory pallbearers were Larry Sieve, Jack Andrews, ______ Fisher, Harold Ruppert, Sam Heddins, and Walter Beckmam.  Military Honors provided by the American Legion and VFW.  Interment is at St. Gabriel's Cemetery, Fulda, MN." NOTE:  The obituary was in a bound edition of the Fulda Free Press.  It was located where the binding was and we could not get a good copy.  This is the reason for the missing information.
