JOE GETZEL-2005 W. Joe Getzel, 83, was born on March 23, 1921, in Fulda, Minnesota. He was the son of William and Anna Hostetler Getzel. Joe grew up in Fulda and graduated from Fulda High School in 1940. He served in the Unites States Army as a M.P. during World War II in Camp Polk, Louisiana and Fort Lewis, Washington. Joe married Betty Franzen on June 12, 1946, in Avoca, Minnesota. After their marriage, he farmed for a time. Joe worked as an assistant manager at the Brewster Elevator. He then worked as a custodian at the Trinity Lutheran Church and the Brewster American Legion for several years until his retirement in May of 2004. Joe was named Nobles County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1994. He served on the Brewster Fire Department for eighteen years and the City Council for ten years. Joe was member of the Brewster American Legion for thirty years. He loved to mow lawns for others. Joe died on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, at his home in Brewster, Minnesota. Joe is survived by his wife, Betty, of Brewster, MN; two sons, Rodney Getzel, of Brewster, MN; and Jason (Molly) Getzel, of Brewster, MN; five grandchildren, Sheena, Cory, Krista, Jacob, and Lucas; one brother, Douglas (Donna) Getzel, of Fulda, MN; two sisters, Lucille Gerber, of Fulda, MN, and Dorothy (Russell) Gerdes, of Fulda, MN: his stepmother, Frances Getzel, of Fulda, MN, and three half sisters, Adele (Vince) Schindler, of West Virginia, Vergene Boulet, of Minneapolis, MN, and Pat (Arvin) Loosbrock, of St. Kilian, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and two half brothers. Funeral services were held on Friday, March 11, 2005, at 1:30 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Brewster, Minnesota, with Pastor David McDonald officiating. Casket bearers will be John Polzine, Dan Koopman, Cory Getzel, Roger Gerber, Robert Getzel, and Ray Berreau. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Brewster, Minnesota.
