Paul J. Geuther, DVM, age 72 of Mesa, AZ (formerly Slayton), died Sunday, 

June 24, 2007 on his 51st wedding anniversary.  Paul was born on the family 

farm near Sutherland, IA on February 13th, 1935 to Luella and George 

Geuther.  Paul was baptized and confirmed in the Christian Faith at Bethel 

Lutheran Church in Sutherland, IA.  Paul grew up in O'Brien County, IA, 

and graduated from Sutherland High School in 1953.  On June 24, 1956, he 

was united in marriage to JoAnn Sundquist at the First Congregational 

Church in Primghar, IA.

 During their marriage, Paul attended Iowa State University graduating 

in 1959 with a Veterinary Medical degree.  Paul began his veterinary 

medical career in Primghar, IA, in practice with his father-in-law Dr. 

Elmer Sundquist.  Their veterinary practice expanded to include Hartley, 

IA area until Dr. Sundquist's retirement in 1963.  Paul continued his 

practice solo and entered the cattle feeding business as the manager of 

Group 21 feedlot in Sutherlan, IA.  In 1971, Paul and his family moved 

to Farwell, TX, where he continued his career in the cattle feeding 

industry as manager of Castor Feed Yards.  In 1983, Paul returned to his 

veterinary career eventually becoming partner in the Slayton Veterinary 

Clinic in Slayton, MN, where he practiced until his retirement in October 

1999.  Paul and his wife, Jo Ann retired to Mesa, AZ, at that time.

 Paul is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jo Ann Geuther of Mesa, AZ; 

their four children, Gregory (Pebble) of Houston, TX; Daniel of Mesa, 

AZ; Kay O'Brian (Greg) of Friona, TX, Matthew (Dana) of Robbinsdale, MN; 

10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters Marilyn (Ken) Petersen 

of Fremont, NE; and Norma (Robert) Prew of Albuquerque, NM; brother-in-

law Stephen (Beth) Sundquist of Denison, IA; several nieces, nephews and 

cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  

Paul chose to donate his body to medical science for the study of 

human diseases and conditions.
