FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: May 2005 ========================================================================= Leroy Gleis was born on November 13, 1949 in Luverne, Minnesota to John and Vera Horwedel Gleis. He grew up on the family farm near Magnolia and attended country school. In 1959 the family moved to a farm near Lake Wilson and Leroy graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1967. He worked for the Chrysler Dealer in Slayton for one year until it closed and then went to work at Hegstad Equipment where he became one of the owners and has worked there since. On May 29, 1971, he and Marcie Kulseth were married at St. Ann's Church in Slayton. They lived in Slayton, Lake Wilson and in 1981, moved to Iona. They had four children. They were later divorced. Leroy passed away unexpectedly on March 28, 2005, at his home in Iona, at the age of 56. He was a member of St. Columba Church in Iona. Leroy enjoyed gardening, splitting wood, camping, snowmobiling, watching NASCAR races and spending time with his family. Survivors include three children and their spouses: Shari and Lance Dean, Round Lake, MN; Jim and fiancé, Teresa Fenicle, Iona, and Bryan and Wendy Gleis, Tracy, MN; four grandchildren: Cody Dean, Austin, Alyssa and Riley Gleis; his mother Vera Gleis, Slayton; brothers and sisters and their spouses: Mary and Jan Vlieger, Windom, MN, Mike Gleis of Clovis, NM, Karyl Nelson of Greeley, CO and Steven and Karla Gleis, Lake Wilson. He was preceded in death by his father; son David; and brothers, Jim, Duane and Marty Gleis. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 1, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Columba Church in Iona with Fr. Eugene Egan officiating. The pallbearers were Ron Muecke, Paul Kulseth, Randy Wynia, Bob Prahm, Nick Gleis and Anthony Gleis. Interment is at St. Martin's Cemetery at Woodstock, MN.
