FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: October 2005 ========================================================================= 1924 - Jennie Grimmius - 2005 Jennie Margaret Grimmius was born January 4, 1924, to Hemert and Bertha (Vande Voort) Schuur at their farm southwest of Chandler, Minnesota. She grew up on the farm with three brothers and three sisters and attended Country School District #83. On February 22, 1945, Jennie was united in marriage to Hilko Grimmius. They made their home and farmed together in the Chandler area. After Hilko’s death in November in 1992, Jennie stayed on the family farm. In April of 1995, she moved into her new home in Chandler. Jennie was a lifelong member of the Chandler Reformed Church and a member of the Ladies Aid. She was very active in the community, serving as the senior citizen treasurer, a member of the Murray County Historical Society and a volunteer for RSVP. She enjoyed traveling, embroidering dish towels, gardening, playing cards and having lunch with her wonderful friends. She also collected various chickens and enjoyed quilting at the Chandler Lutheran Church. Jennie loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. On Wednesday, September 14, 2005, after a valiant fight with cancer, Jennie died at the Murray County Hospital in Slayton, Minnesota at the age of 81. Jennie is survived by her two sons Larry (Rhonda) Grimmius and Willie (Melanie) Grimmius both of Chandler, MN; three daughters: Judy (Bob) Holt, Anoka, MN; Patricia (Wayne) Virkus, Clarkfield, MN; and Ramona (Dan) Willard, Boulder, CO; 12 grandchildren: Debra Gunnick, Kevin Doppenberg, Marc Grimmius, Matthew Grimmius, Michael Grimmius, Dustin Virkus, Derek Virkus, Lindsay Willard, Justin Grimmius, Spencer Grimmius, Jamilyn Grimmius and Anthony Doeden; three great-grandchildren: Thomas Virkus, Rhianna Virkus and Ashlynn Doppenberg; one sister Henrietta Kluis, Chandler, MN; six sisters-in-law: Abeline Schuur, Sylva Schuur, Julia Schuur, Betty Grimmius, Alice Grimmius and Lorraine Grimmius; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 17, 2005, 10:30 a.m. at Chandler Reformed Church, Chandler, MN with Rev. Gary Mulder officiating. Organist was Julie Brossard. Congregational hymns were Softy and Tenderly and Amazing Grace. Soloist was Robyn Mulder. Casketbearers were Debra Gunnick, Kevin Doppenberg, Marc Grimmius, Matthew Grimmius, Michael Grimmius, Dustin Virkus, Derek Virkus, Lindsay Willard, Justin Grimmius, Spencer Grimmius, Jamilyn Grimmius and Anthony Doeden.
