FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: November 2005 ========================================================================= Sybil Grogan was born on November 19, 1907, at Amboy, Minnesota to Walter and Elsie Merrell Kinney. She grew up in Amboy and graduated from Amboy High School in 1926. She continued her normal teachers training at the Mankato Teachers College. She taught country school for two years and moved to Chandler where she taught first grade from 1931 until 1935. On June 11, 1935, she and Charles Grogan were married at Nashua, Iowa. They lived at Chandler, Minnesota their entire married life. She went back to teaching from 1947 to 1949. In 1951, she returned to teach kindergarten, first and second grade until her retirement in 1973. Charles died on October 19, 1985. Sybil lived at Lindenwood Assisted Living for several months in 2003. Due to failing health, she moved to the Slayton Manor Care Center in November 2003. Sybil passed away at the Murray County Memorial Hospital on October 11, 2005, at the age of 97. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chandler where she was active in WELCA, altar guild and did quilting for many years. She belonged to Birthday Club, This and That Women's Club, and Minnesota Education Association. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, sewing, traveling, baking and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her daughter; two sons and their spouses: Cynthia Kielty, Jackson, MN; Paul and Phyllis Grogan, Lakeville, MN; and Michael and Dorothy Grogan, Audubon, IA; eight grandchildren and two step- grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two step-great- grandchildren; sister Nellie Tipler, Amboy, MN; sister-in-law, Fern Gunderson, Slayton. She was preceded in death by her husband Charley; brothers: Burton, Paul and Ellis (Nubs) Kinney; sisters: Alice Muzzy, Ella Mae McGinnis and Elta (Billie) Billington; and a son-in-law, Pat Kielty. Funeral services were held at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Friday, October 14, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jon Skaar officiating. The organist was Marian Carlson. Special music is by Ted Mesner and Mary Borgstahl. Pallbearers were Paul Grogan, Michael Grogan, Ken Borgstahl, Brian Grogan, Al Vis and Ron Mesner. Interment is in Chandler Lutheran Cemetery, Chandler, MN.
