Funeral services were held at 10:00 am on Saturday, October 29, 2005 at First Lutheran Church. Irene Gesine Johlfs was born on May 14, 1917 in Iona, MN to Barney and Marie (Harms) Johlfs. Irene grew up in Slayton, MN. She attended Augustana College in 1933 at the age of 16 years old and transferred to the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1937. Irene married E.J. Gustafson on February 16, 1945. E.J. passed away in 1986. Irene was a dedicated and active member of First Lutheran Church. She has been a member and president of PEO Chapter 1 since 1985. Irene was truly an entrepreneur, she was a producer of oil and natural gas in Texas. She built, developed and owned several major commercial properties in Sioux Falls. During her life she maintained homes in Paradise Valley, AZ, a summer home in Superior National Forest, and a home in Sioux Falls. She loved to travel and spend time with her family. She is survived by her two sons, Thomas E.J. Gustafson of Brookings, SD and Charles J. (Heather) Gustafson of Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Mike Gustafson of Minneapolis, MN, Suzanne (Dan) Ullom of Minneapolis, MN and Jeffrey Gustafson of Minneapolis, MN. ========================================================================= Copyright Judy Clarke 2005.
