FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: June 2005 ========================================================================= Josephine Hansen was born at Granville, Iowa on June 17, 1901, to Casper and Catherine Felton Goeppel. At age two, the family moved from Iowa to a farm in Chanarambie Township near Woodstock and attended country school. Josephine worked as a switchboard operator in both Lake Wilson and Pipestone before her marriage. On November 5, 1924, she and Harold Hansen were married at St. Leo's Church in Pipestone. Following their marriage they farmed near Lake Wilson and raised their family. They retired and moved to Lake Wilson in 1964. Harold passed away on April 23, 1965. Josephine continued living in Lake Wilson until 1998 when she moved to the Our House Hospice Home in Slayton. She then moved to the Slayton Manor on April 5, 2002, and she passed away there on May 9, 2005, at the age of 103 years. She was a member of St. Mary's Church in Lake Wilson, was an honorary member of the WCCW, taught religion classes and was a member of the choir. She was a Gold-Star Mother and member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Lake Wilson and a 4-H leader for several years. Josephine enjoyed quilting, reading, crafts, gardening and spending time with her family. Josephine also enjoyed writing letters to her relatives and many friends. Survivors include three children: Mildred Strand, Lake Wilson; Virginia (Pat) Demuth, rural Slayton and Tom Hansen Lake Wilson; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, two infant sons Robert and Kenneth; son Harold Jr. who was killed in WWII; grandson, Michael Demuth; two sons-in- law, Desmond Strand and Edward Demuth, daughter-in-law, Pamela Hansen, four sisters, including her twin sister and one brother. Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's Church in Lake Wilson, MN on Thursday, May 12, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating. Special music is by Group Therapy. The pallbearers are her great- grandchildren: Ian Nelson, Ali Nelson, Zachary Herding, Tyler Akerlind, Karson Demuth, Kristi Kruger, Kati Honstrom and Kyle Honstrom. Interment is at St. Leo's Cemetery, Pipestone, MN. Visitation is on Wednesday at Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. and for one hour prior to the service, at the church. ========================================================================= Copyright Judy Clarke 2005.
