FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: October 2006 ========================================================================= "Joseph Damian Hermeling, the son of William and Odelia Miller Hermeling, was born on May 3, 1919 in Iona Township, Murray Co., Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm and attended St. Columba Catholic School. Joe was united in marriage to Betty Merklin on June 4, 1956 at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Fulda, MN. After their marriage they lived and farmed south of Iona, MN. They continued to live on the farm after their retirement in 1981 and moved into Fulda, MN in 1987. Joseph entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in November of 2001 and passed away there on August 15, 2006 at the age of 87. He was a member of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Fulda and St. Columba's Catholic Church in Iona. He enjoyed visiting with friends, watching the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings, reading newspapers and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Betty of Fulda, MN; one daughter, JoAnn Harbeck and her husband, Dave of Sioux City, IA; three sons and their spouses, Doug and Julie Hermeling of Adrian, MN, Tim and Laurie Hermeling of Iona, MN and Jeff and Melissa Hermeling of Ft. Worth, TX; twelve grandchildren, six sisters and their spouses, Alice Fehring of Shakopee, MN, Donna Kremer of Fulda, MN, Mae and Art Johnson of Boca Raton, FL, Mary and Don Olsen of Buena Vista, AR, Ivona and Tom Risacher of Wright, MN and Betty and Harold Haar of Fulda, MN and two brothers, Bill Hermeling and his wife, Shirley of Minnetonka, MN and Larry Hermeling of St. Louis, MO. He is preceded in death by his parents, three daughters, two infants and Kristine Hermeling and two sisters, Fidelis Hoffman and Lola Voss. Funeral services were held at St. Columba Catholic Church Iona, MN at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 18, 2006 with Fr. Bob Horihan officiating. The organist was Mary Ann Boom. The soloist was Joanne Halbur. The pallbearers were Ron Hoffman, Denny Voss, Jim Fehring, Randy Kremer, Lowell Meier and Dean Voss. Honorary pallbearers were his grandchildren.
