Heyen, the son of Martin and Gretje Duis Heyen, was born January 29, 1916 in Bloom Twp., Nobles Co., MN. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. Henry moved to a farm near Wirock, MN in 1937. He was united in marriage to Rachel Fisher on May 31, 1940 at the Immanuel American Lutheran Church in rural Fulda. After their marriage they lived in various areas in southwest Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota as Henry worked as a foreman building churches. He helped build the Indian Lake Baptist Church near Worthington, MN, St. Luke's Lutheran Church Woodlake, MN, the Reformed Church in Roseland, MN, St. John's Lutheran Church in Romona, SD, the Reformed Church in Edgerton, MN and St. Luke's in Titonka, IA. After their retirement in 1958 they returned to farm near Fulda. They moved into Fulda in August of 1993. Henry entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in Fulda in November of 1994 and passed away there on November 4, 2004 at the age of 88. He was a member of Immanuel American Lutheran Church. Henry loved playing his violin and concertina and singing. Survivors include his wife, Rachel; two grandsons, Chad Heyen of Okinawa, Japan on the U.S. Air Force Base and Craig Heyen of Fulda, MN; sister, Johanna Erickson of Worthington, MN; sister-in-law, Marian Heyen of Slayton, MN; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ronald, brother, Herbert Heyen and two sisters, Elsie Jacobs and Elizabeth Heyen. Funeral services were held at Immanuel American Lutheran Church, rural Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM on Monday, November 8, 2004 with the Rev. Kristi Mitchell officiating. The organist was Marlene Sievers. The pallbearers were Phil Sievers, Norman Danneman, Harold Mellema, Dwayne Wienrank Darryl Sandhurst and Vince Sandhurst. Interment at Immanuel American Lutheran Cemetery, rural Fulda.
