Hill - 2004 Ida Hill was born on July 2, 1913, on a farm in Murray County, Minnesota to Oscar and Mabel Schaap Erdahl. She grew up on farms west of Lake Wilson and on the north side of the lake. She graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1931 where she had played basketball. She worked at the Lake Wilson Grocery Store. On April 12, 1933, she and Norman A. Hill were married at her parents home near Lake Wilson. Following their marriage they farmed in Leeds Township, near Lake Wilson until 1942. They moved to El Cerito, California where they worked in the shipyards. In 1944, they move back to the farm and farmed until October 1969 when they retired and moved to Slayton. Ida worked in housekeeping at Slayton Manor from 1969 until 1981. Norman passed away on September 2, 1989. Ida continued living in her home until she moved to Westside Apartments in 2000. She moved to the Lindenwood Assisted Living Apartments in 2002. In March 2004, she moved to the Slayton Manor Care Center. She passed away on November 30, 2004, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 91. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and previously belonged to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson. She enjoyed knitting, poetry, gardening, canning, and spending time with her family and many friends. She and Norman had traveled extensively and family was very important to them. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law Darlene and Bob Barke, Madisonville, LA; daughter-in-law Barbara Hill, Slayton; nine grandchildren: Kevin and Terry Barke, Robin and Floyd Hicks, David and Layne Steingas, Shawn and Tom St. Aubin, Regan and Mark Allen, Lorie and Leon Kruse, Les and Monica Hill, Kelly and Kathy Hill, and Chuck and Laurie Hill; 27 great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Inez Peterson, Orono, MN; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Norman; son Roger; granddaughter Kristy Hill; great-grandson Nicholas Barke and sisters: Ethel Eisfeld and Edna Martin. Funeral Services were held at Christ Lutheran Church in Slayton, MN on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Duane Miller officiating. The organist was Twyla Hungerford. Special music was by Cheyenne Hill and Leon Kruse. The pallbearers were all the grandchildren. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery, Lake Wilson, MN.
