Hofmann, the son of Paul and Mary Katherine Neuwerk Hofmann was born November 1, 1924 in Battle Creek, NE. He grew up and attended school in Battle Creek, NE. He moved to Fulda with his family when he was a sophomore in high school. Rup entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served during WWII on the USS Cread and the USS Missouri. After his discharge in 1946 he moved to Indianapolis, IN and worked for General Motors Company. Rup was united in marriage to Ruth Jorgenson on February 14, 1948 at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Fulda. Following their marriage they made their home in Indianapolis. Then in 1952 they moved to Humphrey, NE and Rup worked for a cattle feeding operation for 4 years. In1956 they returned to Fulda where they raised their four children. Rup owned and operated a bus service for the Fulda Schools for 34 years retiring in 1990. He started cleaning the local bank with his parents and continued doing that for 40 years until he retired in 2001. After his retirementmthey continued to live in Fulda. Rup passed away at his home on August 16, 2004mat the age of 79. He was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church. Rup helped mow the church lawn for 12 years. He also served on the cemetery board. He also belonged to the Fulda VFW Post #9017. Rup enjoyed spending time with his family and fishing. Rup prided himself in gardening and beautiful lawn care. Survivors include his wife, Ruth of Fulda; four daughters and their husbands, Nancy and Bruce Rindflesch of Austin, MN, Mary Jo Tucker of Bloomington, MN, Lori and Mike Gillen of Lawrenceville, GA and Jenny and Tom Quam of Morris, MN;eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Vilma and her husband, Elmer Nathan of Madison, NE. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services were held at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, Fulda, MN on August 20, 2004 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Dwayne Schroeder officiating. The organist is Irene Wahl. The soloist is A.W. Koopman. The pallbearers are his grandchildren Shana Schiller, Aaron Rindflesch, Cullan Nelson, Jeremiah Evers, Chelsie Higgins, Zachary Evers, Carl Quam and Joel Quam. Honorary pallbearers are Ralph Witzel, Bert Kolander, Arliss Hein, Marv Schreiber, Harold Graphenteen, Jim Witzel, and Joe Grandgeorge. Interment at Prairie Hill Cemetery. Full Military honors provided by the Fulda VFW Post 9017 and the American Legion Post 318. Dateline Fulda: Visitation 4 to 7 PM Thursday at the Totzke Funeral Home in Fulda and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
