Holmberg - 2004 Lucille A. Holmberg was born on July 4, 1918, at Avoca, Minnesota to John E. and Hilda Holmberg. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended rural school in Murray County and high school and teachers training in Slayton, Minnesota. Lucille taught rural school for five years in Belfast Township, Murray County. In 1942, Lucille moved to Minneapolis and attended Minneapolis Business School. She worked for CPA firms and was a private secretary for Fitzgerald and Sydijko CPAs for 40 years. Lucille was a member of Central Lutheran Church for 60 years and was active in many church affairs including Berea Circle where she made life long friends. Lucille was treasurer for Crippled Child Relief, Inc. for 18 years. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling all over the U.S. and overseas. Lucille enjoyed her family, her nieces and nephews and going "up north" to Bemidji. Due to health problems, Lucille moved in 2002, to River Hills assisted Living, Cambridge to be near her niece Vernis Anderson. In 2004 she moved to Grandview Christian Nursing Home. Lucille passed away on Monday, November 1, 2004 at Cambridge Memorial Hospital at the age of 86. Lucille is survived by sisters-in-law Bernelda Holmberg, Vesta; Esther Holmberg, Belview and Phyllis Holmberg, Slayton and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Rudolph, Glenn, Loren, Willard, Leland and Johnny; sisters Hattie Gladen and Edythe Stoeckman. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, Avoca, MN. Interment will be in Prairie Hill Cemetery, Fulda, MN Arrangements handled by Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home, Cambridge, MN and Totzke Funeral Home, Slayton and Fulda.
