FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: November 2005 ========================================================================= Margaret Huerkamp was born on July 2, 1921, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin to Conrad and Theresa Ludovissie Theis. In 1927, the family moved to a farm east of Avoca and Margaret attended country school and Avoca High School. On April 11, 1939 she and Clem Huerkamp were married at St. Rose of Lima Church in Avoca. Following their marriage they farmed until 1946 when Clem went to work at the Avoca Elevator. In 1951, they moved to Iona. In 1974, they moved to Slayton where they were members of St. Ann's Church. Margaret worked as a waitress at the Broaster Café, the Mint Café, the Shady Drive-Inn and the Pizza Ranch. Clem passed away on January 10, 1999. Margaret continued living in Slayton. She passed away at the Slayton Manor on October 9, 2005, at the age of 84. An avid Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins fan, she also loved to fish and often took her grandchildren and great-grandchildren fishing with her. Her door was always open and her coffee pot was always on as she loved to cook and have her friends and family at her home, especially to play cards. In later years, Margaret enjoyed bus trips to the casino. Survivors include four children and their spouses: Tom and Mary Lou Huerkamp, Austin, CO; Dave and Peggy Huerkamp, Delta, CO; Karen Onken, Slayton; and Kathleen and Tom Winter, Sibley, IA; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband Clem, her two sisters Ann Ebbinga and Dorothy Edmonds and her eight brothers: Mike, Lawrence, John, Nick, Conrad, Henry, Jimmy and Francis Theis. Funeral services were held at St. Ann's Church in Slayton, MN on Thursday, October 13, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating. The organist was Judy Andrews. The song leader was Lavina Fox. The pallbearers were Don Ebbinga, Bob Ebbinga, Dick Ebbinga, Mike Theis, Jim Theis and Dale Theis.
