FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: November 2004 ========================================================================= Walter Bernard Janssen, the son of Richard (RB) and Anna Tammen Janssen was born February 20, 1921 in Nobles County, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm and attended Country School District # 98. He was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel American Lutheran Church in rural Fulda, MN. Walt was united in marriage to Florence Beckman on November 11, 1943 at the Immanuel American Lutheran Church. After their marriage they farmed together on the Janssen farm southwest of Fulda, where they raised their two children. They retired from farming in the fall of 1985 and in January of 1986 they moved into Fulda. Walt entered the Maple Lawn Nursing Home in September of 2004 and passed away there on November 9, 2004 at the age of 83. He was a member of the Immanuel American Lutheran Church, where he was involved in the men's group, served as an usher, served on the church board, sang in the choir and the men's octet. Walt also served as supervisor on the Seward Township Board for many years and was also on the board of directors of the Fulda Coop Oil Co. for many years. Walt belonged to the Fulda Lion?s Club. He was actively involved at the Fulda Senior Citizens Center, serving as President and also served as chairman of the Fulda Senior Dining. Walt was a past Outstanding Senior Citizen of Murray County. He enjoyed farming, playing cards, shooting pool and watching the Minnesota Twins. Survivors include his wife, Florence; son, Ronald Janssen and his wife, Cheryl of Fulda, MN and daughter, Renee Schnurstein and her husband, Bob of Worthington, MN; four grandchildren, Jason Appel, Lindsay Appel, Chris Janssen and Eric Janssen; sister-in-law, Lorraine Janssen of Marshall, MN; many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, infant grandson, Michael Appel, brother, Edwin Janssen and sister, Malinda Beckman. Funeral services were held at Immanuel American Lutheran Church, rural Fulda, MN at 10:30 AM Friday, November 12, 2004 with the Rev. Kristi Mitchell officiating. The organist was Marlene Sievers. The soloist was Linda Lund. The pallbearers were Jason Appel, Chris Janssen, Eric Janssen, Allan Beckman, Dennis Janssen and Myron Janssen.
