As a youth, he attended school in Iona. In 1944, he moved to Jackson and started to work for M. and J.R. Hakes wholesale distributors. He worked for them until 1980. He had served in the US Army from November 29, 1950 to August 28, 1952. He had been a medic during the Korean War. On September 4, 1952, he was united in marriage to Eveline Whisney at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Jackson. James was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, where he had been active as usher, a gift bearer, and as a server for Mass. He had belonged to the Knights of Columbus, a former Commander of the American Legion and VFW Posts in Jackson. He also served two - 2 - years terms as a Justice of the Peace in Jackson County. He had been an active member in the Jackson Golf Club and did volunteer work for the J sports program. James passed away at this residence on Friday, December 17, 2004. James is survived by his wife of 52 years, Eveline Jasper of Jackson, 6 children, Tim and his wife, Ann of Apple Valley, California, Jan and his wife Kim, of Moses Lake (Wheeler), Washington, Leila and her husband Dary Hendricks of Jackson, Jeff and his wife, Carole of Sturgis, South Dakota, Curt and his wife, Debbie of Oak Grove, Minnesota, and Mitch of Jackson and his former wife, Lynne of Chanhassen, Minnesota, 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers, Dale and his wife, Rachel of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Donald Paul and his wife, Betty of Arlington, South Dakota, Rollie and his wife, Kathy of Estherville, Iowa, Jack and his wife, Kay of Excelsior, Minnesota, Pete and his wife, Jackie of Roseville, Minnesota and 1 sister, Mary and her husband, Ed French of Saugus, California. Mass of Christian burial was Monday, December 20, 2004 at the Church of the Good Shepherd with Father Peter Schuster and Father Charles Quinn officiating."
