FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: January 2006 ========================================================================= Allan Johnson was born on September 8, 1910, on a farm in Lowville Township, Murray County, Minnesota to Carl G. and Alfreda Fresk Johnson. Allan graduated from Slayton High School in 1927. Following high school Allan was a member of the Red Jackets a professional football team. Allan worked at the Hadley Creamery in the 1930's and early 1940's. On September 18, 1936, he and LaVonne Olson were married at Lake Wilson, Minnesota. Following their marriage they farmed south of Hadley for 17 years and then moved into Hadley. Allan then worked at the Hadley Elevator for 10 years. In 1964, he became Mayor of Hadley. In 1970, Allan became manager of the Hadley Bar until his retirement in 1978. Allan remained an active member of the Hadley community. LaVonne passed away on December 22, 2003. Allan became a resident of Slayton Manor on November 29, 2003, and passed away there on November 29, 2005 at the age of 95. He was a member of Hadley Lutheran Church where he was a Sunday school teacher and served on the cemetery board for years. Allan has served on the Boards of the Hadley Elevator, School District 58, and Creamery board. Allan enjoyed playing baseball for the Hadley Buttermakers, he later managed the team for five years. Allan was a professional umpire with the Southwest Minnesota Umpire's Association for five years. Shooting pool was one of Allan favorite past times. He also enjoyed golf, fishing, and playing cards. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law: Joyce and Jim Lange, Slayton, MN; four grandchildren: Cindi Horn, Alan Lange, Robin Lange, and Shelli Johnson; great-grandchildren: Bryan and Kelli Horn, Matthew and Ashley Lange, Samatha and Kim Schreier, Jessica Doeden and Karla Johnson; one great-great-grandson, Dylan Doeden; two brothers and their spouses: Doug and Irene Johnson, Slayton, MN and Vince and Jean Johnson, Willmar, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife LaVonne, and three brothers: Herb, Craig and Nolan. Memorial services were held at the Hadley Lutheran Church in Hadley, MN on December 4, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. Kerry Boese officiating. The organist was Marilyn Zinnel.
