FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: November 2004 ========================================================================= "Lars Johnson - Funeral services were held last Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Lars Johnson in the First Lutheran church, with the Rev. A.M. Youngquist officiating. Burial was made in the Dundee cemetery. Mr. Johnson passed away at 9:30 oclock Monday evening, July 12. Lars Johnson was born November 24, 1868, in Molkum, Varmland, Sweden. There he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. At the age of 15 he came to this country to join his brother, Carl, who was engaged in farming near Dundee, and the two brothers farmed for several years on the place now tenanted by Ben Johnson. In 1896 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Johnson of Rock Rapids, Iowa. Two years later they purchased the farm at which place he was living with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Christ Klein, at the time of his death. He had lived there continuously with the except of a few years, beginning in the spring of 1936, when they purchased a home in Dundee at which place Mrs. Johnson passed away on August 26, 1937. Following the death of his wife he moved back to the farm to be with his son, Clarence, who was running the place at the time. He was the father of five children who survive him: Arthur and Mrs. Christ Gerber (Emeline) of Worthington, Lawrence and Mrs. Christ Klein (Mabel) of Dundee, and Clarence of Reading. There are eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers. Mr. Johnson had been failing health for several months and had been confined to his bed most of the time since March. He was very happy when any of his relatives, his neighbors, or friends came to see him and help pass the time. Mr. Johnson was one of the pioneers of the community. Honorary pallbearers were five grandsons, Roland Johnson, Gerald Klein, Clinton, Douglas, and Duane Johnson. The active pallbearers were V.C. Carlson, August Larson, Axel Anderson, Robert Phillips, B.R. Bodelson and Guy Olson. Those from out of town here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Halvorsen of Jackson, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hanson of Windowm, Mrs. Jack Carsten and Axel Hanson of Slayton, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Johnson of Clarkfield, Mrs. Emil Johnson, Lucille and Everett of Westbrook, Mrs. Henry Manning, Betty and Joan of Waseca, Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Sands and Mrs. Ed Sands of Lakefield, Mr. and Mrs. Nate George, Mrs. Verslus Vozel, Mrs. W.L. Peterson, Mrs. A.D. Cogeshell, Mrs. Peter Roe, Mrs. Frank Schulte and Mrs. Knoob Busch of Rock Rapids, Mrs. Elmer Lundgren, Mrs. B.R. Wanner, Mrs. O. Anderson, Mrs. Harry Bartel of Worthington, and Mrs. August Hartberg and Jimmie of Heron Lake." (The following article is from a relatives scrapbook. The name of the paper is unknown.
