"Funeral Held Saturday for Nels Jorgensen - Esteemed Citizen Called by 
Death Last Wednesday - Funeral services for Nels R. Jorgensen, retired 
farmer and local businessman, were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 
o'clock at the Presbyterian church with the Rev. E.J. Rose officiating. A 
short prayer service was held at the home preceding the service at the 
church. Music was furnished by a quartet composed of Mrs. Wm. McGlin, 
Mrs. B.W. Lloyd, B.W. Lloyd, and O.E. Jorgensen. They sang two hymns, "In 
the Garden" and "It Is Well with My Soul." The pallbearers were F.J. 
Elskamp, N.P. Radick, H.C. Nelson, Peter Haar, George Onken, Sanke Behr, 
Henning Pierson of Spencer, Iowa, and Herman Okerman of Slayton. Burial 
was made in the Prairie Hill cemetery, and the members of the Masonic 
order of which he was a member, held the impressive grave side service 
with J.G. Duncan, Past Master of Fraternity Lodge 101 of Worthington, 
officiating.

Mr. Jorgenson has been in failing health for some time and a heart 
condition continued to grow worse in spite of all that medical science 
and care could do. He had consulted the doctors at Rochester and was 
constantly under the care of a physician but in recent weeks uremic 
poisoning and dropsy complicated his condition. On April 21st he was 
taken to the Worthington hospital. But his strength continued to fail and 
he peacefully slept away at 2:23 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, May 3.

Nels Rasmussen Jorgensen was born in Denmark on December 5th, 1872. He 
came to America when he was 17 years of age and settled in the city of 
Chicago where he was employed by Armour & Company. On June 17, 1893, he 
was united in marriage with Jennie Hoffer. Three years later they moved 
to Campus, near Dwight, Ill. and began farming. They continued to farm in 
the vicinity of Dwight until 1908 when they bought a farm in Seward 
township in Nobles county. This they operated until 1920 when they 
retired and moved to Fulda.

In Fulda Mr. Jorgenson was employed as tank man for the Stand-Skelly Oil 
Company. Still later he was employed by the State Highway Department in 
Murray county. He was a respected citizen who was honored during his 
lifetime by his neighbors and friends who elected him to responsible 
civic positions. For nine years he was Supervisor in Seward township. In 
Fulda he served both on the Village Council and on the Board of 
Education. In Seward he had also served on the school board.

He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters; Edward of Iona, 
Ray of Blue Earth, and Stf. Sgt. John, who is with the army in India; 
Mrs. Frank Judy (Florence) and Mrs. Chas. Ludwig (Hazel) of Sparrows 
Point, Maryland; also by two sisters, Mrs. Chris Peterson of Dwight, 
Illinois, and Mrs. Carl Henrickson of Alberta, this state, and by one 
brother, Hans Jorgensen of East St. Louis, Ill. There are 13 
grandchildren and one great grandchild. Four children have preceded him 
in death, three daughters, Minnie, Myrtle, and Hilda, all of who died in 
childhood, and a son, Clarence, who died during the past year.

Among the relatives and friends who came to attend the funeral services 
were Mr. and Mrs. Hans Jorgensen of East St. Louis; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. 
Ludwig and daughter Sally of Sparrows Point; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Peterson 
of Dwight; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Anderson of Newell, Iowa; Mrs. Donald Dricken 
of Storm Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hoffer and sons, Edward and Charles, 
and Mrs. Lester Hewitt and children, Virginia and Ronald, of Pennock; Mr. 
and Mrs. Carl Henrickson, Fred Hendrickson and daughter, Darlene, and 
Mrs. Ed Brandon and daughter, Lorraine, of Alberta; Mrs. Chris Nelson of 
Donnely; Mrs. Clarence Jorgenson of Worthington; Mr. and Mrs. Ray 
Jorgenson of Blue Earth; Mr. and Mrs. Wesly Ernst and son Wesley Jr. of 
Morris; Mr. and Mrs. Henning Pierson of Spencer; Mr. and Mrs. George 
Anderson of Dundee; Herman Okerman, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Risacher, Judge 
G.J. Kolander, Clifford Keller. Dr. L.C. Christianson, Mr. and Mrs. 
George Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. F.W. Helweg and other friends from Slayton; 
Henry and Jack Hagge and Henry Harberts of Worthington. There were also 
many friends from Iona and other towns who had known Mr. Jorgensen and 
enjoyed his friendship."
