FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: December 2005 ========================================================================= Murray County, MN Loretta Mirie Kalas Loretta Kalas was born on May 18, 1923 near Lismore, MN to William and Elizabeth Schmidt Lentz. She grew up on the family farms near St. Killian and Iona and attended school in Lismore. On December 4, 1940 she and Arnold Kalas were married in Currie, MN. Following their marriage they farmed at Iona and Balaton, MN. They later moved to Lake Wilson. Loretta earned her GED in 1985. Arnold passed away on August 31, 1976. Loretta moved to Slayton and lived in her home until 2003 when she moved to Slayton Manor. She passed away on October 31, 2005 at the Murray County Memorial Hospital at the age of 82. She was a member of St. Ann's Church in Slayton. She belonged to the Slayton Legion Auxiliary. Loretta enjoyed playing bingo and cards, bird watching, fishing and spending time with her children and their families. Survivors include her four sons, four daughters and their spouses: George and Rosemary Kalas of Slayton, Audrey and Steve Smith of Slayton, Eldora and Lee Larson of Slayton, Arnold (Butch) and Laurie Kalas of Slayton, Duretta and Robert Willhitte of Slayton, Lyle and Kimberly Kalas of Dixon, IL, and Jane and Dan Einch of Slayton; 35 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arnold; son, Leon Kalas; sisters, Elizabeth, Tillie, Barbara, Margaret, Dora, Annie and Francis; brothers, Ted, Nick, Matt, John, and William (Junior) Lentz; three grandchildren, Richard, Loretta, and Joshua; and a great grandson, Tony. Funeral services were held at St. Ann's Church in Slayton, MN on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at 10:30 am with Fr. Patrick Arens officiating. The organist was Judy Andrews. The song leader was Julie Steenstra. The pallbearers were grandsons; Robert Willhite Jr., Bill Willhite, Randy Miller, Steven Smith Jr., Scott Kalas, Robert Miller, Lonnie Kalas, and Dale Kalas.
