FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: February 2005 ========================================================================= Kathryn Ellen Karl was born on March 7, 1912 on a farm near Jewell, IA to Irvin and Emma House Cochran. In 1918 the Cochran family moved to a farm near Slayton. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school. On May 26, 1928, she and Alphonso LeRoy Karl were married at Slayton. Following their marriage they farmed in the Lake Wilson, Slayton and Hadley areas. LeRoy passed away on August 2, 1972. Kathryn continued living on the farm near Hadley until 1989 and then moved to Slayton and lived at the Westside Apartments. Due to failing health, she entered the Slayton Manor Care Center and passed away there on February 5, 2005 at the age of 92. She was a member of the United Methodist Church and belonged to the UMW. She belonged to Murray County Extension Club and was a leader of the Beaver Creek 4-H for ten years, was president of the Friendship Circle for over 40 years and worked in the lunchroom of the Slayton Sale Barn and auctions for several years. Kathryn enjoyed baking, cake decorating, scrap booking, and dogs and cats. Survivors include four grandchildren: Janice Winter of Wadena, MN, Kathy Karl of Crosby, MN, Karen Pieper of Detroit Lakes, MN and Kari Karl of Sebeka, MN; eight great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two sisters, one brother and their spouses: Avis and Ellsworth Heyen of Slayton, Don and Aldora Cochran of Slayton, and Doris and Darrel Schreier of Slayton. She is preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy, son, Robert, daughter-in-law, Darleen Karl, sisters, Ruth Gray, Eva DeGriselles and Evelyn Cochran, and brother, Ralph Cochran. Funeral Services were held at United Methodist Church in Slayton, MN on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Gwen Bohlke officiating. The organist was Julie Brossard. Special music provided by Arnie Guild. The pallbearers were Charles Gray, Kraig Cochran, Lowell Pals, Frank Voges, Bud Cochran and Denny DeGriselles. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
