FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: March 2005 ========================================================================= 1931-J0ELLEN KOLANDER-2005 JoEllen Rose Kolander, the daughter of James M. and Lydia Schellenberg Hanson, was born on February 19, 1931 in Slayton, MN. She grew up in Avoca and attended elementary school there. In 1945 she moved with her family to Fulda, MN where she attended Fulda High School, graduating in 1949. Joey was united in marriage to Robert Kolander on June 19, 1949 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fulda. After their marriage they lived and farmed in Seward Twp., Nobles Co. MN. They remained on the farm until 1978 when they moved to a home in Fulda on Fulda Lake. Joey then went to work for the Farmers Agency of Avoca until her retirement in 1996. They continued living at their home after her retirement. Joey passed away at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD on February 28, 2005 at the age 74. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church Fulda, MN, where she taught Sunday school, Release Time and Vacation Bible School. Joey also served President of the sewing guild and was a past member of the Ladies Aid. She served as trainer, coordinator and visitor for the American Cancer Society and the Reach for Recovery Program, where she was a past President of the Murray Co. Unit. Joey also was a member of the Nobles Co. Extension. She enjoyed working on the computer, painting and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Survivors include her husband Bert; six children and their spouses, Diane and Richard Zanter of Sergeant Bluff, IA, Bob and Nancy Kolander of Wentzville, MO, Jim and Joan Kolander of Fulda, MN, Gail and Alan DeGrote of Worthington, MN, Jean and Tim Runkle of Fulda, MN and Karen and Keith Dorpinghaus of New Ulm, MN; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, James Hanson and his wife, Jewel of Irmo, SC and one brother- in-law, Lloyd Robertson of Worthington, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Janice Bobertson. Funeral Services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church Fulda, MN at 11:00 AM on Friday, March 4, 2005 with the Rev. Dwayne Schroeder officiating. Inurnment at Prairie Hill Cemetery Fulda, MN. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday
