FileFormat by Terri--MNArchives Made available to The USGenWeb Archives by: Judy Clarke Submitted: February 2005 ========================================================================= Joseph S Koob - Joseph S Koob, 83, of Somerset, formerly of Worthington and Westerville, died at 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at his residence. Joseph was born November 18, 1921 in Iona, Minnesota, the second youngest of ten children born to the late Joseph and Pauline Wermerskirchen Koob. He attended St. Columba School in Iona for 12 years and Marquette University, where he studied mechanical engineering until 1941 when he moved to Akron, Ohio to work for Goodyear Aircraft (April-November 1942). He joined the Army on November 2, 1942, serving in New Guinea, Southern Philippines, Luzon, receiving an American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Starts, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Star and Good Conduct Medal. He was a longtime member of Worthington American Legion Post 239, and a recent member of Somerset American Legion Leo Ryan Post 58. He moved to Somerset in 1994 and found friends he had not yet met. He used his talents to help anyone who asked for it, and some who didn’t. He was especially helpful to Holy Trinity School where his granddaughters attended. He loved his country and his family with all his strength. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, whom he married August 12th, 1944, Ellen Margaret Krumeich Koob; one son, David Joseph (Joanna) Koob of Thornville; three daughter, Jane (David) Kunkler of Rushville, Elaine (Bob) Haynes of Blacklick and Paula Ann Koob of Dallas, TX; grandchildren, Michael (Jhyana) Koob of Columbus, Mark Koob of Austin, TX, Sarah Kunkler of Athens, and Eileen Kunkler of Columbus. Brothers, Aloy J Koob, Iona, C.M. Koob, Slayton, Quirinus Koob, Worthington and sister Bernetta Koob, Iona. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Mark Edward Koob, brothers Melchoir Koob, Hilary J Koob, and sisters Suzanne Ottillie, Ionilla Koob, and Nita Thompson. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday January 17th, 2005 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Father Tony Breen as celebrant.
