She grew up on farms near Moorehead and Castana, Iowa. Mary graduated from Castana High School in 1956. On September 29, 1956, she and Dwight Koster were married at Onawa, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived in Sioux City for a short time. They later moved to Salix for eight years and then to Sergeant Bluffs for four years. In 1975, they moved to Currie where she and Dwight ran the Grocery Store until 1978. Mary passed away on April 20, 2005, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 67. Mary was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and previously a member of the Town and Country Club of Currie. Some of Mary's favorite pastimes were fishing, gardening, plants and flowers especially violets, doing crafts and collecting cookie jars. Survivors include her husband Dwight Koster, Currie, MN; three sons and their wives: Rick and Sioux Koster, McKinney, TX; Kevin and Connie Koster, Mesquite, TX; and Bruce and Jan Koster, Windom, MN; five grandchildren; Carmen Koster, Chasity Koster, Cory Koster, Chase Koster, and Alyssa Koster. She was preceded in death by parents, one grandson, B.J. Koster, two brothers, and Jim and Bob Blackman. Funeral services were held at First Presbyterian Church in Currie, MN on Monday, April 25, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. with David Erickson officiating. The organist was Wendy Steffen. The pallbearers were Paul Schmidt, Ken Bassett, Cory Koster, Chase Koster, Alyssa Koster, and Dave Bassett. The honorary pallbearers were all her grandchildren.
