"Dundee Boy Gives His Life for Country - Donald Krogman Was Member of the 
Air Force -

Stf. Sgt. Donald Krogman of Dundee, gunner on a B-26 Marauder, was killed 
in action in the European theatre on April 8, according to word from the 
War Department received by his mother, Mrs. Helena Krogman, in Dundee. 
Krogman went overseas in March of this year, landing in England, and he 
had written his mother that he had been on missions over enemy territory.

Donald enlisted in the army air corps in Sioux Falls on October 19, 1942, 
when he was 17 years of age. He was sent to Jefferson Barracks, Mo., and 
trained later at Las Vegas, Nev., Lowry Field, Denver, at Tampa, Florida, 
Ardmore, Okla., and Kellogg Field, Battle Creek, Mich. 

Donald was home on a 15 day furlough over last Christmas time.

Donald Krogman was born at Topeka, Kansas, February 26, 1925. His father 
died in September 1930 and in March 1931 Mrs. Krogman came with her family 
to live in Dundee which was Donald's home until he enlisted in the air 
corps. Although he was not a strong child, he graduated from the 8th 
grade in Dundee and later attended the Fulda high school for a few months, 
but was forced to give up his studies on account of his health. He was 
interested in flying and was happy when he was accepted for military service.

He was a thoughtful son and kept in close touch with his mother and the 
family through regular correspondence. He is survived by his mother, a 
brother, Sgt. Vincent Krogman, who is stationed with the air force at 
Keesler Field, Miss., and by three sisters, Mrs. Ernest Mathias (Catherine) 
of Dundee, Eleanor of Sioux Falls, and Maxine at home, and also a brother, 
Anthony at home.

Memorial services will be held in St. Mary's Catholic church in Dundee 
at 9:30 on Tuesday morning, May 2nd."
