Larson - 2004 Luella "Lu" Caroline Larson was born on November 5, 1926, to John W. and Frieda (Kardell) Brehmer on the family farm near Ocheyedan, Iowa. She grew up Ocheyedan moving to the Hartley, Iowa area, as a young girl. She attended Hartley Public Schools, graduating from Hartley High school in 1944. Following her education, she worked as a housekeeper for various farm families and for the Haley-Neeley Fruit Company in Spencer, Iowa. She was united in marriage to John C. "Jack" Larson on October 6, 1945, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they moved to Brookings, South Dakota where her husband attended college and then to Slayton, Minnesota, where they resided for many years. In 1982, they moved to Lake Miltona, where she lived until the time of her death. She was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Alexandria where she was active in the ladies groups. She was a former member of First Lutheran Church in Parkers Prairie and a former financial secretary for Faith Lutheran Church in Avoca. She was a former 4-H leader and enjoyed attending her son's Little League games when they were young. She was an avid baseball fan, and enjoyed fishing, crocheting and needlepoint. Luella, 78, passed away on Friday, December 24, 2004 at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria. She is survived by her husband John "Jack"; two sons: Charles (and Ellen) Larson, Atlanta, GA and Alan (and Raquel) Larson, Sleepy Eye, MN; two sisters: Mary Dass, Fulda, MN and Betty (and Norm) Schwartzenbach, Worthington, MN; four grandchildren: Jennifer Ann (and John) Wood, Charles J. Larson, Jr., Tracy Johnson and Michael Johnson; two step- grandchildren: Brian (and Amanda) DeSua, Christine DeSua (and fiance, Michael Renner) and four great-grandchildren: Dusten Wood Braden Wood, Anna Wood and Cody Wood. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Elsie LaHeist and a brother William "Bill" Brehmer. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 29, 2004, at Christ Lutheran Church, Slayton, MN with Rev. Gloria Anderson officiating. Burial in Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Avoca, MN. Pallbearers were Thomas Holinka, David Holinka, Harris Swan, Allen Greenfield, Thomas Larson and Stanley Larson. Honorary pallbearers were Rev. Loren VanOrt and Harvey Larson.
